Object description Mei Lan Hsiao is het kind van Chinese migranten die in 1949 gevlucht zijn naar Taiwan. Op een congres voor haar werk in Taiwan leert ze een Belgische man kennen. Ze blijven in contact met elkaar en na veel aarzelen besluit Mei Lan in 1991 naar België te migreren. In België was het voor Mei Lan moeilijk om aan te passen aan een volledig nieuwe omgeving en kwam ze enkele obstakels tegen. Haar enige houvast was de liefde voor de Chinese theeceremonies en de tradities die ze van haar ouders had mee gekregen. Vandaag zet ze zich in voor de promotie van Chinese tradities zoals theeceremonies, meditatie en filosofie. Dit interview is tot stand gekomen in de Transit Verhalenbus (2010-2013) en opgenomen in het kader van Hedendaagse Migratieverhalen voor de Tafel van Antwerpen (2013). Het interview is in zes fragmenten onderverdeeld en thuis en aan de Vlaaikensgang afgelegd. In de fragmenten met Engelse ondertiteling heeft ze het over communicatie met haar moeder, kalligrafie, muziek, haar reis, thee en haar migratieverhaal.
