Object description Dit beeld is één van twintig gelijke standbeelden van een menselijke figuur met een varkenskop en –poten. Deze sculpturen werden gemaakt door de Deense kunstenaar Jens Galschiøt en zonder toestemming in de publieke ruimte van twintig Europese steden geplaatst. In Antwerpen werd het beeld op maandag 8 november 1993 om 5:25 uur op de Groenplaats gezet en diezelfde dag nog verwijderd en naar een stadsdepot gebracht. Het doel van zijn guerrilla happening was, in Galschiøt’s eigen woorden: “Aandacht te vestigen op de toenemende onverdraagzaamheid en brutaliteit in Europa en aan te tonen dat er in ons allen een “innerlijk beest” schuilt. Als we ons hier niet van bewust zijn is het mogelijk dat dit beest ons op een dag zal overmeesteren.” In een brief van 29 november 1993 gericht aan toenmalig burgemeester Bob Cools schenkt de kunstenaar zijn werk aan de stad, die zelf mag beslissen wat ze ermee doet.
