Object description Josuë Dupon is de vervaardiger van maar liefst vijf kunstwerken die zijn opgenomen in de collectie Kunst in de Stad. Drie van deze werken zijn dierenbeelden, wat niet mag verwonderen gezien Dupon reeds door zijn tijdgenoten beschouwd werd als een meesterlijke "animalier", een kunstenaar gespecialiseerd in de natuurgetrouwe weergave van dieren. Het beeld van de leeuwin en haar welp stond, op vraag van de kunstenaar, aanvankelijk opgesteld aan de kruising Gitschotellei-Diksmuidelaan. Het kunstwerk was oorspronkelijk in bruikleen gegeven maar werd in 1953 dan toch door de toenmalige gemeente Berchem van de dochters Dupon aangekocht. Door de werken aan de Ring in de late jaren 1950 was het noodzakelijk het beeld te verplaatsen. Het werd opgesteld aan de Fruithoflaan waar het vandaag nog steeds staat. Andere dierenbeelden van Dupon kan je ontdekken aan de ingang van de Antwerpse Zoo en op de Jan Van Rijswijcklaan, waar een duo brullende leeuwen en een indrukwekkend beeld van de Bijbelse held Samson die een leeuw verslaat te zien zijn.
