Summary*^- Conference on Library Association Activity held in Waregem, 19th March
1977. ! . ( .
At the conference views were being exchanged on the association’s finahty and the aims
it wants to reach.
The younger generation’s viewpoint on the matter was eloquently brought forward by
P. De Coninck, on behalf of the Scientific Library, and by M. Manderveld on behalf of the
Public Library.
The elder focused on limitations of equipment.
Throughout introductions and discussions the following threads and ideas may be
distinghuised :
the association ought to be an established pressure-group to promote library activity in
Flanders and it ought to take serious options on library policy-,
being a professional organisation the association should remain active in the field of
both training and of drawing up additional courses ; il has to devote itself to the revaluation
of the library office ; *v ' 4 ' ^ .
its members should consider the association as being a reality, by providing an efficient
inside and extemal communication and by regarding the library as fully engaged into the
association’s activity; - L: , J . •’
the association should grow and scale up if it desires to be an independent entity
disposing of sufficiënt financial eapaCilies ; ,
a permanent secretary is one possibility, although the association will always have to
rely upon volunteers in order to be able tö radiate its intrinsic value and to expand.
