Collectievorming
Robert L. Burr, Evaluating library collections : a case study, in : The journal of
evalueren ;
alle geledingen van de universiteit die bij het onderzoek betrokken zijn ;
Classification and relative index. Ed. B. Custer. 19th ed. 3 vols.
Albany (NY), Forest press, 1979. Appr. S 110. ISBN 0-91068-23-7.
The Dewey Décimal Classification observed its centennial as this, the nineteenth
édition, neared completion. The Classification has grown from an anonymous 44-
page pamphlet to a three-volume work of some 3,400 pages. Forest Press and the
Forest Press Committee are assisted in their éditorial responsibilities by an
advisory group known as the Décimal Classification Editorial Policy Committee.
The Committee represents the libraries that use Dewey, and usually meets twice a
year on matters relating to the development of the Classification. This édition of
the DDC was produced by computerized photocomposition. The international
acceptance of the DDC continues to grow. The British, Canadian, Indian, South
African, and Australian National Bibliographies, for instance, use Dewey
numbers in their bibliographie publications. To keep users of DDC Edition 19 up
to date on developments regarding the Classification, Dewey Décimal Classifica-
tion Additions, Notes, and Decisions, is published at occasional intervals. Ail
purchasers of Edition 19 are entitled to a free copy of this publication.
