Automatie
G. de Saedeleer, (Ministry of Economie Affaire, Central Library, Brussels,
Belgium). The automation of the Library “Fonds Quetelet”. Network. International
Communications in Library Automation 3 (4), 9-17 (1976). 5 ref. ; illus. ; charts.
The automation of the “Fonds Quetelet” (600,000 volumes ; 6,600 sériais) is of
the integrated type. The various sections such as acquisitions, retrieval or loan
departments are no longer independent services, each one with its own procedures
and own endlessly reprocessed data. Ail sections are now integrated parts of one
automated system. The computer coordinates all the activities of the several sec-
tions. Redundancy is eliminated, the available means are evenly distributed and in-
formation is easily and smoothly processed. Contents : Automation of the acqui-
sitions department ; Automation of bibliographie retrieval -, The lending system ;
The automated sériais system.
