On leaving the Ryks Museum we should not omit a glance at
the Garden, which is laid out in the style of the 16-17th cent. and
contains the old Bergpoort of Deventer (by H. de Keyser; W. side),
the Heerenpoort of Groningen, and other remains of old Dutch
buildings. The Drawrne Scuoon (Oefenschool voor Teekenonder-
wysers), in the §8.E. corner of the garden, contains a freely restored
Last Judgment by J. van Scorel (from the church at Warmenhuizen)
and B. van Orley’s cartoons for the stained-gla

The Paulus Potter Straat leads to the S. W. from the Ryks Museum
to the —
“Municipal Museum (Stedelyk Museum; Pl. D, 6), a building in
the Dutch style, erected in 4892-95 by A. W. Weissman. On the
ground-floor are collections of industrial art and antiquities, while
the first floor contains a gallery of modern paintings and rooms used
for exhibitions. Adm., see p. 367. Director, Mr. C. W. H. Baard.
On the Grounp Froor to the left are the Chronometrical Museum
and the Sophia Augusta Collection, bequeathed in 1890 by Baroness
Sophia Augusta Lopez-Suasso (née De Bruyn).
I Room (No. 20). Tortoise-shell furniture from the old Broekerhuis
in Nieuwer-Amstel; bust of Don Antonio Lopez-Suasso; portrait of the
foundress, by Zh. Schwartze; other modern family portraits. — Il Room
(No. 49). Japanese and Chinese furniture, Jacquer-work, ivory-carvings, and

III Room (No. 18). Amsterdam kitchen (18th cent.). — IV Room (No.17).
Ceramic collection (China, Japan, Delft, etc). In the case in the middle
are silver toys, ornaments, watches, etc. By the windows is a valuable
collection of coins. — V Room (No. 416). Room- fittings in the Empire
style (1802), from a house in the Heeren-Gracht. eS
_ WI Room (No. 15). Room-fittings and furniture in the style of Louis XV.,
from various houses in Amsterdam. The walls are covered with Utrecht
velvet. Ceiling-painting by Jac. de Wit (4744). The case to the right con-
tains porcelain.
_ Wil Room (No. 44). Rococo room, from a house on the Keizers-
Gracht. Over the chimney is a painting by Jac. de Wit. — In the passage
is a staircase from the Keizers-Gracht (1748).
VUI Room (No. 13). Fittings in the style of Louis XIV., from various
houses in Amsterdam.
Ix Room (No. 12). Room in the style of Louis XVI. (4776), from a
house in the Doelen-Straat. Wall-paintings in imitation of tapestry (views
near Amsterdam), probably by Jurriaan Andriessen. — X Room (No. 11).
