TUS EGO MERCEDEM TIBI REPENDAM. At the other end is a figure of 1
S. Servais standing between 2 angels, one of whom holds his
crook, the other a book with the legend, InpuE ImmORTALITATEM;
onthe chamfer is, Beatus SeRyATIUS JUSSUS AB OCTAVIA TRANSIRE 4
SEPULTUS IN ISTA PRESUL BASILICA MODO CAPSA CLAUDOR ET ARA. Each 1
of the sides are divided into 3 compartments with 2 arcades in a
each, beneath which are figures of the 12 pce seated and hold- -
ing scrolls relating to the last Judgement, e. g. Dirs Domini sicur +
FUR, et. ; beneath them is this inscription : ¥ OS QUI SECUTI ESTIS 2
ME SEDEBITIS SUPER SEDES XII JUDICANTES DUODECIM TRIBUS ISRAEL IN
REGENERATIONE CUM SEDERIT FILIUS HOMINIS IN SEDE MAJESTATIS SUE. «:
On the top of the roof are the words addressed by Christ to the 9
blessed, VENITE BENEDICTI PATRIS MEI, PERCIPITE PARATUM VOBIS REG- |=:
NUM A CONSTITUTIONE MUNDI, ESURIVE ET DEDISTIS MICH MANDU- | -
care, etc.; in 6 medallions are repr. 3 groups of the just and 3 of (1
the damned holding scrolls with answers to our Lord Domine a
QUANDO TE VIDIMUS ESURIENTEM ET pAyiMus TE, etc.; beneath is the 9
reply, AMEN DICO VOBIS, QUANDIU FECISTIS UNI DE BIS FRATRIBUS MEIS 2
MINIMIS ME FEcISTIS; between the medallions are the just rising 9
and receiving tunics from 2 angels and crowns from a winged bh
figure of Mercy, a figure of Justice weighing the works of the 9
risen ina halance, and 2 angels driving away the damned; and h
at the extremities are 4 angels blowing trumpets. The whole of i
this splendid shrine is gilt and adorned with filigree work, ena- ~
mels and precious stones; the summit of the roof has a foliated (6
cresting of metal with large crystals terminated at either end by a 6
pineapple. This shrine was forly. placed over the high altar 4
with 4 smaller reliquaries of SS. Candidus, Valentine, Mooulph {i
and Gondulph, these with the Altar-and some curious Flemish
paintings, after having escaned destruction during the French Rev., ...
were either destroyed or sold by the brutally ignorant restorers of Ac
the Church in 1808 : the 4 small reliquaries are now in the oe i
tion of Prince Soltikoff at Paris. In the Treasury are: 1, the 0.
pastoral staff of S. Servais of wood with ivory crook afeuaiee
with copper; 2, a large key of white metal with open work handle 5)
