sizisles, which have flamboyant tracery, are also of the commence-
snent of the XVI cent.; beneath the clerestory is an elegant trifo-
cunitum. This is the only 2nd pointed church in Belgium which has
i) towers; that at the W. end of the nave, containing a sweet set
f chimes, is crowned by a stone spire of open work 238 ft. high. ;
sis pierced by a heautiful rose-window, the finest in Belgium, the
ffect of which is however greatly marred in the interior hy an or-
mpan-gallery, erected in 1740 by Baron de Bouille, the then Dean, who
‘jegestroyed the old roodscreen at the same time : the other 2 towers,
iirhich have lost their spires, are placed one on each side of the
iohoir. There is no W. entrance. On §S. of choir is an isolated
sixcortal, c. 1260, which formerly gave access to the cloisters; its
signtel, ornamented with panelled quatrefoils, is sustained by 8
siiolumns adorned with stone statues; the tympanum, divided into
(09 compartments, represents the Judgement of Solomon, the Nati-
vjaity, and the Adoration of the Shepherds and Magi, beautifully
narved; the archmould is adorned with statuettes of Prophets and
yingels kneeling in canopied niches. The walls of the Trans. are
sfecorated exteriorly and interiorly with panelling of good design ;
isnat of the N. Trans. bears traces of mural painting of the end of
gne XVI cent. This interesting edifice, the finest 2nd pointed
otmurch remaining in Belgium, is being restored under the direc-
m¢on of M. Vierset- Godin of Huy; unfortunately these restora-
aucous are in part very faulty, the sculpture and iconography being
gisgeated with a negligence quite unpardonable. The dimensions
{the church are, length, 236 {t.; width, 77 ft.; height, 82 ft.
